Manuel Pangilinan asked an apologize for a disappointing outcome of the company’s charity event to the Filipino Fans.
The supposed to be another Landmark in Philippine Basketball went ugly to the others.
The Last Home Stand of Gilas Pilipinas was supposed to be even more than that. The Smart-Gilas squad that competed in 2011 was preparing for an Asian tournament. Gilas Pilipinas is now gearing up for the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
“We wish to apologize to our Filipino basketball fans for the sudden and disappointing turn of events today. We ourselves are extremely disappointed by this unexpected development. All we wanted was to give our Filipino basketball fans a real treat while at the same time, through this benefit event, help our countrymen who are still recovering from Super Typhoon Yolanda and more recently Typhoon Glenda,” Pangilinan said.
“So we extend our sincerest apologies.” he added.
He also said that they will refund the payed tickets of the fans.
“Our responsibility is the Filipino basketball fans. It is a basketball clinic but we really appreciate if the expectation that there would be a five-on-five or a game. That is much clear to us, there should be no mincing of words here,” Pangilinan said.
“Clearly, we created that expectation and perception. Our job as PLDT is to be accountable to that perception, that’s why there is an offer for refund. This is our duty. ‘Okay if you’re not happy, we’ll pay your ticket.’”
